Health professionals recommend that everyone wear cloth masks in public settings. However, not everyone working on the front lines has the time or ability to make cloth masks. Whatcom Unified Command (WUC) is collecting, sanitizing and distributing homemade masks to essential businesses.
If you have made masks you are willing to donate, thank you! Please drop off your masks in one of the ballot boxes listed below.
- Bellingham County Courthouse, 201 Grand Avenue
- Deming Library, 5044 Mount Baker Highway
- Blaine Library, 610 3rd Street
- Lynden Library, 216 4th Street
- Ferndale City Hall, 2095 Main Street
- Sudden Valley, Security Gate One
The donated masks will be collected on Mondays and Fridays, and then professionally sanitized before being distributed to those in need.
Cloth masks can block virus particles from spreading through the air when someone speaks, coughs, or sneezes. This includes people who may have COVID-19 but still feel well and don’t show symptoms. While cloth masks do help prevent the spread of COVID-19, they are not a substitute for maintaining six-feet of physical distance and performing frequent hand hygiene with soap and water.
